This is a compact evergreen shrub covered in small glossy leaves. In late Spring/early summer the plant becomes covered in tiny blue flowers which attracts bees. This is a full hardy, low maintenance shrub. Grow Ceanothus in a well-drained site in full sun. Prune after flowering, and feed and mulch after pruning. Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Once established, lavatera plants require only occasional attention. Pruning lavatera is best undertaken in spring when all risk of frost has passed and the buds begin to swell. Prune all stems hard to about 30cm above ground level. Mallow can be slow to break bud in spring so be patient with plants that might appear to have died over winter as they may still be dormant.
